Subsection I of Section II of Art: 5 of 18776 also deals with Contract of Service. Every such Contract shall be in triplicate, "and one part shall be lodged" in the Office of the Emigration Officer, and such part shall "be admissible in evidence" "without a stamp.
It would probably cause the Capt: Supt: of Police a great deal of trouble if he was told the distinction between a simple promise to repay a debt, and a "Contract of Service" according to the Emigration laws. I attach a copy of "Contract for Service" to show the nature of the agreements which the Emigration laws have to deal with.
The form was framed in 1870.
